The logo above was from my first home page, that I set
up circa 1994. It was supposed to show that I'm interested in both
computers and music. I leave it on here just for nostalgia!
About Tim!
I'm
a software engineer for MakeMusic,
formerly known as Coda Music Technology in Eden
Prairie, Minnesota.
We develop music software and products. I
work in our Notation Products division, which is responsible for Finale®
(the world's leading music notation program), Finale Allegro, PrintMusic!, and
other notation offerings. MakeMusic! also develops SmartMusic
Studio, which is an "Intelligent Accompanist™". It can play
accompaniments while listening to a performer and following their tempo changes.
Background Info
I grew up in north central Iowa in the small town of Meservey.
After graduating from Meservey-Thornton High School in 1988, I attended Wartburg
College in Waverly, Iowa, majoring in computer science and mathematics.
After graduating from Wartburg in 1992, I worked as a programmer for Century
Companies of America, now known as CUNA
Mutual Life Insurance Company, also in Waverly,
IA, until September, 1994, when I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to become
a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Student in Computer
Science at the University of
Minnesota. In June of 1996, I received my Master's degree in Computer
Science, and started working with Coda Music Technology, now known as
MakeMusic!.
Interests
One of my primary interests is music-related activities. I
currently play trumpet,
and occasionally keyboards as part of the music ministry at New
Hope Church, and play trumpet with the Plymouth
Concert Band. In the past, I've played with several
community, civic, and college
bands,
orchestras, and small ensembles. I also served as Worship Coordinator for
Cornerstone, which was our church's ministry to single adults, for two years
before I was married. I also enjoy many outdoor activities, especially
bicycling and working out in the yard. In addition to just spending time with
friends, I've dabbled with the following over the last few years (with varying
degrees of success): golfing, model rocketry, gardening & landscaping, model
railroading, home remodeling, website design, photography, electronics, and
more.
